Smart Houses Are On The Rise
You are well aware at this point that we are living in a digital age. Just looking at the example of cell phones (90 percent of American adults have one) provides solid evidence that we are living in a technologically advanced era.
Now technology is coming home. Smart homes—or homes that allow you to automate many of the processes from lighting to controlling the temperature—allow homeowners to up their energy efficiency and decrease their expenses through lower utilitiy bills. It is no surprise, then, that smart home implementation is one of the biggest trends we see in the real estate market today. Here are just a few examples.
- Thermostats: With new, advanced thermostats, homeowners can control the climate of their houses from their smartphones. That means you could turn on the AC just before you leave the office, letting you come home to a cool house without running your system all day.
- Vents: While not on the market yet, smart vents had attendees at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas buzzing. These vents will open and close on their own, helping control air flow in your home and reducing hot or cold spots.
- Light Bulbs: Some LED bulbs can now be controlled from your smartphone (no more getting out of bed to turn off the lights!). You can also create an automated lighting schedule and teach your lighting system to turn on just before you enter your home.
